ZyLAB ONE helped Hitachi Energy perform their investigations in a smarter way

Introduction

Hitachi Energy, headquartered in Switzerland, employs around 40,000 people in 90 countries and serves customers in the utility, industry and infrastructure sectors with innovative solutions and services across the value chain. 

Hitachi Energy’s investigations team consists of five members: a Head and four regional investigators. The team started using ZyLAB ONE back in October 2020, mainly for their investigation cases. So far, the total number of data that has been processed with ZyLAB ONE is 1.27 TB across 34 unique users like investigators, data privacy officers and more.  

Reasons Hitachi Energy chose ZyLAB ONE over competition

It is imperative in any investigation to conduct complex data reviews. The company’s global footprint can bring extra challenges to the investigation procedures. These challenges may include non-standard documents and processes, foreign languages etc.

While conducting a multi facet investigation involving several subject employees of a country which has strong data protection regulations, their challenges revolved around data protection, limited capability of different language skills, and the high volume of documents. Therefore, a tool with the capability to assist in identifying relevant documents for review, translations, redactions etc. was crucial for their investigations.  

The investigations team of Hitachi Energy was using an on prem solution to support their work. However, due to an increase in volume of yearly investigations, the need for international collaboration on cases and without lifting the data out of jurisdiction (due to data privacy laws), their previous provider was not able to support the investigations workflow.

This is very useful for Hitachi Energy’s investigation cases where they need to collaborate with various users internally and externally but also within their team that is spread out around the globe, from Asia to South America. Litigations.

Hitachi Energy leverages frequently ZyLAB ONE’s enhanced technology on review process. Investigations that include many different witnesses with PST files, several gigs of data, and thousands of emails.

Without ZyLAB ONE, the review process would have been incredibly lengthy and extremely costly. With ZyLAB ONE they can search any email for specific date ranges and the search shows only the relevant documents by using keyword searches and facets. Furthermore, with ZyLAB ONE’s redaction feature, the team can protect their documents by redacting strictly confidential data and therefore making sure that all sensitive information remain protected.  

Another interesting case in which Hitachi Energy used ZyLAB ONE, was related to a script that was shared within the company and was supposed to be used in a fraudulent activity. During the onboarding session the Customer Support team was able to identify the specific format of the script. The first instinct of the team was to search for a specific combination of words and during the training session the Customer Support team was able to set up an alternative query and find the documents they were looking for.
