ZyLAB Customer Wins KMWorld KM Reality Award

United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials/Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia Recognized for Innovative Knowledge Management Practices

Vienna, VA and New York, NY – November 7, 2007 – ZyLAB, an innovative developer of Information Access Solutions, today announced that its customer, the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials/Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (UNAKRT/ECCC), has received KMWorld magazine's 2007 KM Realty Award. The recognition is based on the UNAKRT/ECCC's deployment of ZyLAB's ZyIMAGE solution for an electronic document management system to support the trial of senior leaders of Democratic Kampuchea and those who were most responsible for the crimes and serious violations of Cambodian penal law, international humanitarian law and custom, and international conventions recognized by Cambodia, committed during the period from April 17, 1975 to January 6, 1979.

UNAKRT/ECCC turned to ZyLAB to deploy an electronic document management system for all its judicial records and in support of the records of the Office of the Prosecutor and the Defense Support Unit. The document management system also supports the administrative records of UNAKRT/ECCC and allows external lawyers and other approved third parties to access, review and download relevant evidence data via secure internet connections.

The solution runs two parallel but separate repositories for the United Nations (UN). As such the office of the co-prosecutors and an office of the co-investigating judges are both using this system. Under this contract, ZyLAB's core investigative modules have been included, as well as support and maintenance and a full deployment plan. The entire tribunal is now paperless and deadlines are consistently met. In addition, evidence material cannot get lost and disclosure to the court and third parties is now a simple process (by CD, DVD and Internet). Users with little to no computer experience are now scanning, reviewing evidence material and key fielding (foldering and annotating) it for disclosure sets to the court.

"The benefits of a complete Knowledge Management solution have been long demonstrated in the business world, and ZyLAB has many proven success stories in that arena. However, the test of a true KM solution lies in other environments, as well. ZyLAB's extraordinary work with the UNAKRT/ECCC is shining proof of the full value of a complete, end-to-end knowledge management solution, said Hugh McKellar, editor-in-chief of KMWorld magazine.

Since 1993, ZyIMAGE has also been used by UN organizations such as the UN-International Court of Justice (ICJ), UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), UN International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), UN Lebanon IIC, World Bank, UN Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, and many more.

"To win the KM Reality Award is truly an honor as it recognizes how our technology solves real-world challenges," said Dr. Johannes Scholtes, President of ZyLAB North America LLC. "Importantly, our technology is being used to punish individuals for heinous acts they committed against mankind. It is an honor and privilege to provide technology solutions for the UN in Cambodia and around the world. We thank KMWorld for recognizing ZyLAB and the UNAKRT/ECCC's efforts for implementing KM technology that helps indict or prove innocence in these trials."
