Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau Selects ZyLAB for Enterprise-Wide Document Management and Retrieval Solution

U.S. Department of Treasury Bureau Awards ZyLAB $375,000, Six-Year Contract

McLean, Virginia, May 17, 2004 - ZyLAB, an established market leader of document management and full-text retrieval software, today announced that the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) has selected ZyLAB's ZyIMAGE document management and retrieval solution. The TTB plans to implement ZyIMAGE enterprise-wide and will be used by approximately 450 employees throughout its ten satellite offices and headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Prior to purchasing the enterprise-wide solution, the TTB Chief Counsel's office was using ZyIMAGE for archiving and searching documents. Based upon the success of this implementation, TTB is now planning to use ZyIMAGE enterprise-wide for archiving and searching documents and e-mail. In addition, TTB plans to take its library and put it completely online - historical documents will get scanned into the system and then sent to its archives.

"TTB regulates the Alcohol & Tobacco industries and we often have to answer law-related questions and perform research within our vast library," said Marcelo Olascoaga, enterprise architect, TTB. "ZyLAB will provide us with easy and instant access to the information that we maintain. To date, getting to the information we need can take a long time and is an inefficient use of our time. Our organization is focused on improving overall internal processes and service to our constituents, and imaging our documents will help support us in this effort."

One other area that the TTB is currently exploring is the potential to tie ZyIMAGE into its PKI, smart card, and digital signature initiative. The idea is that when a document is signed electronically or on paper the TTB can store the document in ZyIMAGE thus allowing users to pick up these documents and view their history.

"We are extremely pleased to provide the TTB with our document management and retrieval solution in its effort to improve the Bureau's overall operational efficiency," said Johannes Scholtes, president of ZyLAB North America. "ZyIMAGE offers TTB a solution that will drop right into their existing architecture, and because it is an XML-based solution, there are no vast storage requirements or expenses associated with the implementation. No other solution on the market can do this, and that is why we are seeing such an interest by government organizations in our solution."
