IDC Report Cites ZyLAB as a Potentially Disruptive Vendor in the Search and Retrieval Technology Marketplace

ZyLAB's Affordable, Modular Solutions Enable Organizations to Address Immediate Business and Compliance Requirements

September 13, 2004 - McLean, VA - ZyLAB, an established vendor of document imaging and information retrieval software, today announced that it is cited in IDC's Technology Assessment report, "Is Disruption Inevitable? Modeling the Future of the Search and Retrieval Software Market" (IDC doc. #31643), as a vendor with the potential to disrupt the market because of its lower cost product that still offers the features demanded by the marketplace. ZyLAB offers a suite of products for information storage, investigation, and retrieval. Importantly, each separate software product can be easily integrated into a customized and comprehensive client solution.

IDC notes that with the entrance of new low-cost products offered by organizations like ZyLAB, larger vendors must continue to add additional features to their current offerings in order to convince current or new customers to upgrade to new versions. As the price increases with the addition of new features, a company like ZyLAB is in a good position to capture the lower end of the market because of its lower pricing and acceptable set of features.

"Based on our model of the dynamics of the search and retrieval market, we believe that 2006 will be a watershed year for enterprise search and retrieval," said Susan Feldman, Research Vice President, Content Technologies, IDC. "Because the market is growing so rapidly, this market will become saturated in 2006-2007. In other words, we will run out of new high-end customers for search applications. However, as prices come down, a new group of customers-mid-size companies-will begin to invest. Companies like ZyLAB, that offer full-featured, lower priced, quick-to-install products, particularly ones that integrate elements of both document management and search, will appeal to this new group of customers. "

ZyLAB offers a comprehensive XML-based (DoD 5015.2 certified) search engine and content management solution to archive, search, find, organize, share, and reproduce all paper and electronic office documents, including e-mail. Over the years, ZyLAB has developed a set of full-text search techniques that include: word-, phrase-, wildcard-, Boolean-, proximity-, quorum-, key field-, date-, number-, synonym-, concept-, similar-, progressive-, and fuzzy search-, all in relation with each other and supported by several forms of relevancy ranking, relevance feedback, text mining and visualization tools.

"ZyLAB is excited to be mentioned in this IDC report - especially as an example of a vendor that has a great opportunity to disrupt the search and retrieval marketplace," said Dr. Johannes Scholtes, president of ZyLAB North America LLC. "We have a number of major advantages in this market - we have been in business for 25 years, we are global, our products are modular to allow organizations to purchase what they need (today) with the ability to integrate future products seamlessly, and our cost structure is competitive. Many of the larger vendors have an 'all-or-nothing' approach to sales which is good for them but not necessarily good for the customer. There is no need for a customer to spend $250,000 for an all-inclusive solution when they can spend $25,000 - $50,000 on a product that meets their immediate needs."
